Yogyakarta, Indonesia 31 August 2026 — JAFF Market is expanding its collaboration with the Adelaide Film Festival (AFF) in 2026, creating new pathways for Australian filmmakers and producers to connect with Indonesia and the wider Southeast Asian screen industry. The partnership, now entering its third year, will bring Australian projects to the JAFF Future Project (JFP) and introduce Australian producers to the new Producers Exchange at JAFF Market, which will take place in Yogyakarta from November 28 to 30, 2026.
Through its Festival Bridges program, AFF is inviting applications from Australian filmmakers for JFP, JAFF Market’s project platform for feature-length fiction, animation and documentary works from the Asia-Pacific region. AFF is particularly interested in projects with a connection to Indonesia, whether through their stories or production, and will prioritize projects nearing completion or in the work-in-progress stage. Projects in development and pre-production will also be considered.
Selected projects will be presented at JFP and will be eligible for its awards and industry support. Mylab will provide mentorship and industry guidance to help participating filmmakers refine their positioning, identify potential partners and navigate opportunities across the Asian film industry.
The 2026 collaboration will also open a new route for Australian producers through the JAFF Market Producers Exchange. AFF is seeking producers with a strong interest in working with Southeast Asia to apply for the program, which will select 12 international producers through an open call. Participants will be featured across JAFF Market’s channels, join selected official programs and networking events, and receive tailored professional matchmaking.
The initiative is funded by the Australian Government’s Office for the Arts. It is designed to strengthen connections between Australian and Indonesian filmmakers, deepen cultural exchange and create practical opportunities for cross-border collaboration. AFF’s Festival Bridges program also includes a partnership with Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival and supports Australian filmmakers’ participation in international festivals and markets.
One representative from each selected project, either a producer or writer-director, will receive a travel grant to attend JAFF Market, along with market accreditation and access to facilitated meetings and networking opportunities.
JAFF Market Director Linda Gozali said the partnership had developed from project-level support into a broader platform for sustained industry relationships. “Entering the third year of our partnership with Adelaide Film Festival reflects the strong foundation we have built together. With the introduction of the Producers Exchange alongside the JAFF Future Project, we are expanding the conversation from individual projects to longer-term relationships between producers and the screen industries of Australia and Southeast Asia,” she said.
AFF CEO and Creative Director Mat Kesting said the collaboration reflected the festival’s commitment to regional exchange. “AFF is proud to champion collaboration within our geographic region and help facilitate cultural and creative connections with our neighbours. Our long-standing and authentic partnership with JAFF Market and JAFF is a source of immense pride and reciprocity, and we hope it will continue for many years to come,” he said.
Mylab Founder and Curator Lorna Tee said earlier participants had secured partners and collaborators, strengthened their understanding of the Asian industry landscape and advanced their projects through the partnership. “We hope to help more Australian and Asian film industries flourish together across the wider Asia-Pacific region and build stronger ties among filmmakers and production companies,” she said.
